Different Extraction Types Explained

Making CBD oil can go one of two ways you can use a CO2 extraction or alcohol extraction. The CO2 extraction process requires the plant material to hit certain temperatures so that the cannabinoids go from their acid to active forms.

Afterward, it goes into an extractor where the oils are pulled out through decarboxylation. Alcohol extraction is a bit different because the hemp is dried and then gets soaked in alcohol. This isn't alcohol you consume its isopropyl alcohol. After soaking for a while, the hampers removed and then heated, so the alcohol burns off. You won't have any amount of alcohol in your CBD oil.

How to make CBD oil

CBD oil making always starts with hemp. You'll need to prepare your ingredients first, so everything is easily accessible when you need it. Prepare your hemp by grinding it finely. A grinder can make this easy. Then heat the hemp. Lay out your ground hemp on a baking sheet. Put it in the oven at 225-degrees Fahrenheit for an hour. It should look slightly crispy. When your hemp is crisp, you'll mix it with oil. The oil you use depends on your taste and what you have available. You can use olive oil, coconut oil, or avocado oil.

To mix your oil and hemp, you can use a crockpot on "low" or create a double boiler. To make a double boiler bring a pot of water to a low boil, reduce the heat to a medium simmer, and then work in a metal bowl over the simmering water. Mix the oil and hemp, then let it set in the double-boiler or crockpot for three hours. The oil should be brown-green.

The final step in making CBD oil is to strain it through cheesecloth or a coffee filter. You may have to do this a few times. Strain the oil into a glass jar, like a mason jar, squeeze out as much oil as possible. You now have CBD oil made right at home.
